#InteropLondon - A New Show, A New Market And Some New Partners

Last week, Interop opened its show doors for the very first time in the UK and having had a successful show at Interop Las Vegas back in April, we were eager to get face to face with the UK’s IT community. With our expanded unified communications range we now have huddle room and conferencing products that not only fit into the traditional pro AV market but also offer ideal solutions for the IT community who increasingly are adopting the responsibility of specifying as well as maintaining equipment in smaller conferencing and huddle rooms. This seems to be partly down to the fact that smaller companies are picking up on the benefits and savings offered by unified communications and as they don’t really have the need for a conferencing or AV department pass the job to their IT specialist. I have exhibited with Revolabs at Infocomm in the US on a couple of occasions and ISE in Amsterdam for the last 4 years. Although these are great shows for us, attracting thousands of visitors, they are mainly from the AV market in one form or another. So Interop proved a great place for the UK team to get a feel for what the IT community knew and wanted of a conferencing equipment supplier.


From the many conversations I had at the show it’s definitely the case that the IT specialists have picked up the smaller conferencing baton and are running like the wind with it. Many knew what they needed and showed a great deal of interest in the Revolabs UC products on show, especially the UC 1000 and UC 1500, both offering an ultimately simple and yet remarkably flexible solution for integrating or “bridging” conference calls between the IT centric softphone applications such as Skype™, Microsoft Lync™, IBM Sametime®, WebEx™, and SIP telephony via IP PBX systems.

Interestingly, Interop wasn’t alone at ExCeL London. The organisers were holding a number of other exhibitions at the same time and the one right next door to ours was the Facilities Management show. We had a number of people talk to us from the Facilities show including existing Revolabs customers who dropped by the stand to say “Hi”, having been there for the FM exhibition. The crossover of the two shows worked very well for us as just about anyone involved in business nowadays needs some form of audio conferencing and more are becoming aware of this.

Foot traffic dropped a little on the second day thanks to a shutdown of the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) meaning only drivers and the more intrepid travellers could make it to the venue.

Meetings with other exhibitors also led to some potentially new vendor allegiances with some good conversations about working together ending with meetings in my calendar to progress these new relationships.

All in all it was a good show. Now all that’s left to do is follow up on the leads. I leave no lead unturned…
