Senior Electronics Engineer


Position Description

Yamaha UC is seeking a Senior or Principal level Electronics Engineer, having a proven background in Analog Hardware Design, to make significant development contributions in future audio and video conferencing products.  The right person is passionate about the overall customer experience and able to push the limits of what’s possible.  This person will work on a team of design engineers, industrial designers, and manufacturing engineers.  Your efforts will begin with a rough product idea and continues through a successful ramp into mass production.

What You'll Do

  • Be a key member of a cross-functional engineering team, leading the analog hardware development activities on new products.
  • As a member of the team, feel comfortable speaking up when needed if you see the design choices of  other functional disciplines creating problems in the your domain. 
  • Work with the technical team leader and the other team members to find viable solutions that meet all of the constraints.
  • Help define the architectures of new products to meet a challenging set of product requirements.
  • Identify and correct issues with the circuit design or PCB layout as they are uncovered, such as excess electrical noise, system instabilities, or poor EMC performance.
  • Define, execute, and document hardware design verification testing throughout the development process.
  • Define and implement product features that uniquely positions Yamaha UC products ahead of the competition.
  • Provide weekly status reports during the development cycle.
  • Bill of Materials creation and maintenance using Parts Lifecycle Management tools.
  • Work on several programs or projects simultaneously.
  • Assist the manufacturing team in the creation of hardware test methodologies and define manufacturing test limits.
  • Participate in engineering builds (hand-made samples) and pre-production builds at contract manufacturers in Asia.
  • Travel internationally (as required) to Asian vendors and partners, up to 15% of the year.

Skills You'll Need

  • Bachelor or Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5-7+ years’ experience as an Analog Hardware Design Engineer, designing commercial or consumer grade products for volume production .
  • Proficient with simulation and analysis design tools (filter synthesis, frequency response, spice, loop stability, signal-to-noise, etc…).
  • Proficient with lab equipment, such as oscilloscopes, voltage and current probes, bench power supplies, power analyzers, impedance analyzers, etc…
  • Schematic capture and knowledge of best practices for PCB layout .
  • Ability to accurately estimate development schedules, resources, and costs from high level project milestones.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a cross-functional development team.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, highly visible position.
  • Technically inquisitive – must be able to take on new technical challenges and learn new technical skills on-the-fly, self-researching if necessary.  Then must be able to apply the knowledge to solve the issues at hand.
  • Preference given to candidates having a background in developing  conferencing products in the Unified Communications business enterprise space.
  • Possess a passion for creating a fantastic customer experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.


Depth of experience in the following areas is considered highly desirable:

  • Power electronics
    • Switch-mode power supply architectures and design
    • Audio power amplifiers
    • PFC
    • Control loop analysis and measurement
  • Design of low-noise circuits
  • ADC’s and DAC’s
  • Avoiding analog ground loops
  • Harmonic suppression and filtering for electro-magnetic compliance
  • Familiar with digital architectures and embedded bus technologies
