Senior Camera System Engineer


Position Description

Yamaha UC is seeking a creative Camera System Engineer to make significant development contributions in future audio and video conferencing products.  The right person is passionate about the overall video experience, picture quality and able to push the limits of what’s possible.  This person will work on a team of design engineers, industrial designers, and manufacturing engineers.  Your efforts will begin with a rough product idea and continue through a successful ramp into mass production.

What You'll Do

  • Be the owner of the camera module from the lens and sensor selection to the final manufacturing tests
  • Influence the software, hardware, and mechanical architecture and design to meet challenging product requirements
  • Define the camera sub-systems’ optical performance
  • Develop and execute effective objective video quality tests that correlate to subjective video quality assessments
  • Overall responsibility for video subsystem quality.  Work with your hardware and software teammates to optimize quality and find solutions to problems as they arise.
  • Research and stay abreast of the latest video technologies
  • Lead the development of the camera subsystem, including the fabrication of hand built engineering samples
  • Define, execute, and document design verification testing
  • Own and report on development issues of the camera subsystem throughout the product program
  • Work on several projects simultaneously
  • Assist the manufacturing team in the creation of camera test methodologies and setting production limits
  • Deliver manufacturing test limits from thorough engineering characterization
  • Travel internationally (as required) to Asian vendors and partners

Skills You'll Need

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer Science, or Optical-Mechanical Engineering
  • Seven years work experience in professional or consumer video conferencing system design and implementation.
  • Fluent in objective and qualitative video quality measurements
  • Experienced with Imatest and image processing tools
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a cross-functional development team
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, highly visible position
  • Familiar with camera manufacturing processes to yield quality products.
  • Preference given to candidates having a background in developing video and conferencing products in the Unified Communications business enterprise space

Depth of experience in the following areas is considered highly desirable:

  • Optical-mechanical aspects of the video camera sub-system
  • Image capture technologies to include software tools, test charts, and equipment
  • Structural Similary Index Measurement techniques to support video quality tuning
  • Must be able to think through a problem on many levels:  from creative product definition and architecture to component selection and from product operation to production systems.
  • Technically inquisitive – must be able to take on new technical challenges and learn new technical skills on-the-fly, self-researching if necessary.  Then must be able to apply the knowledge to solve the issues at hand.
  • Possess a passion for quality and strong attention to detail, particularly for product quality and product verification.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills
